Zovirax Duo contains two active substances: acyclovir and hydrocortisone. Acyclovir is an antiviral that helps fight the virus that causes cold sores. Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid that reduces the inflammation associated with cold sores. Zovirax Duo can be used by adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older. Zovirax Duo cream is used to treat the initial signs and symptoms of cold sores (e.g., tingling, itching, or redness) on the lips and skin near the lips, to reduce the chance of cold sores progressing to a blister in adults and adolescents (aged 12 years and older). Even if your cold sore develops into a blister, Zovirax Duo will shorten the healing process by about half a day to a day, compared to the cream without the active substances. Cold sores are caused by a virus called herpes simplex. The virus causes blisters and sores mainly on the lips, but sometimes also on other areas of the face. Cold sores can develop when the body's immune system is weakened, for example, when you have a cold or other infection. Stress, strong sun, cold temperatures, or menstruation can also trigger cold sores. If you do not feel better or if you get worse after 5 days of completing treatment, you need to see a doctor.
