Pursennide contains senna as its active ingredient, which belongs to a group of medicines that stimulate bowel movements. Pursennide is used for the symptomatic relief of occasional constipation (infrequent or difficulty passing stools) in adults and children over 12 years of age. Pursennide stimulates bowel movements over a period of 6 to 12 hours and should therefore be taken at bedtime.
