Proton 20 mg gastro-resistant capsules contain the active substance omeprazole. It belongs to a group of medicines called 'proton pump inhibitors'. They work by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
Proton 20 mg is used in adults for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms (e.g., heartburn and acid regurgitation).
Reflux is the return of stomach acid to the esophagus (food pipe), which can become inflamed and painful. This can cause symptoms such as a painful burning sensation in the chest rising to the throat (heartburn) and a bitter taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
It may be necessary to take the capsules for 2-3 consecutive days to achieve symptom improvement.
