Mucosolvan is an expectorant. It reduces the viscosity of bronchial secretions, making the mucus more fluid. Mucosolvan has a stimulating effect on the bronchial mucosa to produce more fluid bronchial secretions. Furthermore, it facilitates the formation and drainage of surfactants from the pulmonary alveoli and bronchi. Along with the activation of the ciliated epithelium of the bronchial mucosa, these mechanisms maintain and improve the self-purifying capacity of the airways. It facilitates and accelerates the elimination of mucus from the pulmonary alveoli with its fluidifying and expectorant action. Mucosolvan is indicated as a mucolytic adjuvant in the antibacterial treatment of respiratory infections in the presence of bronchial hypersecretion.
