Fenivir is indicated for the treatment of cold sores. Cold sores are a viral infection. The virus can remain dormant for long periods, but when viral multiplication is triggered, skin lesions such as small blisters (vesicles) occur. This can happen, for example, when you are weak, have a cold or the flu, or after prolonged sun exposure. The virus causes painful blisters to appear on the lips. Fenivir contains penciclovir and is an antiviral medication that stops viral multiplication. Applying Fenivir to cold sores means faster healing and a shorter painful period. The infectious phase is also shortened, however, the application of Fenivir does not prevent the virus from infecting other people. If symptoms worsen or persist after 4 days, consult your doctor.
